Here are some tips for cleaning and caring for your Persian rug:

Daily Basis

Persian rugs are generally hand-knotted and densely woven, making them more durable than delicate. Even so, it's important that you properly care for your Persian rug on a daily basis, especially if you have kids or pets.

Depending on how much foot traffic your home has, you can remove debris from the rug at the end of each day or week. Debris such as hair, animal fur and dander, food particles, and small stones and pebbles can lodge in the fibers.

To keep the rug sanitary and looking its best, you can take it outside and give it a firm shake to loosen and remove the debris. Hang a larger rug over a fence and gently tap it with a broom as another option. You can also vacuum the rug if you'd prefer.

Monthly Basis

On a monthly basis, take the time to look for any stains on the rug. You can spot-clean it by first removing any excess moisture with a towel and then making a solution of warm water and a few drops of a mild dish detergent.

Moisten a soft sponge or cloth with the soapy water, and then dab it onto the spot until the stain is gone. Repeat the process with clear water and then allow the rug to air dry. If you would like to wash the entire rug, use the same soap and water solution, but apply it to the total surface using a sponge. Again, rinse with a cloth moistened with clear water and allow the rug to air dry.

If the stains remain or the rug still feels dirty, consider having the rug professionally cleaned.
